Postdoctoral position, Colorado
Postdoctoral Researcher - Chemical and Biosciences Center, National Renewable energy Laboratory, Golden CO 80401
Requisition #: 2700-5094
Summary
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and transfer of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. NREL's Chemical and Biosciences Center has openings for a Postdoctoral Researcher(s) in microbiology, proteomics and molecular biology. The initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal for up to three years.
Duties
Candidates will be involved in projects supporting the development of a H2-photoproduction system in green algae. One ongoing project involves applying metabolomic- and proteomic-based approaches to study algal metabolism and protein expression during the transition from oxygenic photosynthesis to anaerobic H2-producing conditions. These studies will support our current gene-expression research that is on-going at NREL (see Mus et al. 2007 J. Biol. Chem. 282[35]:25475). Another project might involve the directed evolution of hydrogenases to improve the biotechnological properties of these enzymes.
Minimum Requirements
Ph.D. in molecular biology, proteomics or microbiology. Candidates are also required to have good communication skills in English. The position(s) requires knowledge of metabolism, biochemical assays, protein expression, and basic nucleic acid techniques such as PCR, plasmid cloning and site-directed mutagenesis. Experience with anaerobic protein purification is desirable.
Preferred
Preference will be given to those who have experience in metabolomics and proteomics research. Previous experience with the biochemistry of metalloenzymes, anaerobic H2 metabolism or protein modeling is a plus.

Postdoctoral and Technician Positions, Massachusetts
Four Positions, Brandeis University
1. A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nicastro to study cilia and flagella in the model organisms Chlamydomonas or Tetrahymena, using molecular genetic approaches including RNAi technology, biochemistry and high-resolution imaging. Further details about this opportunity are available at:

2. A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nicastro to study the 3D structure and function of molecular motors using cryo-electron tomography (Nicastro et al. 2006 Science 313:944). Further details about this opportunity are available at:
www.bio.brandeis.edu/nicastrolab/Motor_Postdoc2008.pdf
3. We also have openings for two candidates (one Postdoc and one EM
Technician) with experience in high-pressure freezing, freeze-substitution and ultramicrotomy. The successful candidates will join the newly implemented cellular visualization facility for correlative light and electron microscopy to work closely with cell and neurobiologists.

Postdoctoral Position, Colorado
Postdoctoral Researcher - Chemical and Biosciences Center - NREL
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and transfer of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. NREL's Chemical and Biosciences Center has openings for a Postdoctoral Researcher to investigate genetic factors responsible for the expression of the [FeFe]-hydrogenases in the green alga, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.
Candidates will be responsible for characterizing genetic and protein factors that affect the expression of algal hydrogenase activity. Regulatory factors such as O2 and redox potential will be particularly investigated. Specific project duties involve generating and screening insertional mutagenesis libraries for mutants unable to produce H2; physiologically and genetically characterizing the desired mutants; using genomic information to investigate other possible factors involved in hydrogenase expression and function; performing promoter analysis to detect proteins that bind to it.
Minimum Requirements: A recent (within 3 years) Ph.D. in biochemistry, genetics or molecular biology. Candidates are also required to have good communication skills in English. The position requires experience in one or more of the following: eukaryotic genetics/molecular biology, biochemistry of hydrogenases, gene regulation. Experience with anaerobic procedures is desirable. Preference will given to those who have experience in Chlamydomonas research.
Pre-employment drug testing required.
